Churchill Fellowships

In 1962, Sir Winston Churchill, then aged 88, was asked what memorial he would like to be established in his name. Churchill suggested something like the Rhodes Scholarships, but available to all, and on a much wider base. As a result of this request, a fund-raising exercise was organized and was prepared to swing into action the moment Churchill died.Throughout Australia, £2.3 million was collected. Those funds were wisely invested, and have enabled some 3000 Fellowships to be awarded across Australia, of which 160 have been from the ACT.

A Churchill Fellowship benefits everyone:

  • Individuals have their skills, determination, and dedication recognized
  • Organisations have the prestige of having a Churchill Fellow in their midst
  • Australia benefits because the Churchill Fellow will return with skills and knowledge not readily attainable here.

Everyone is encouraged to think about their own skills and aspirations, and to consider applying for a Churchill Fellowship.
